No words

There's just nothing to be said.

We'd had some storms tonight, and we got a call a little before 10 pm saying our plane had taken some damage. Yeah, I'll say. We'll go back in the morning to see what's to be seen or done. What we could tell in the dark is that the we have a destroyed tail tip, bent propeller, bent wing strut, damaged leading edge of one wing, fuel leaking (around fuel cap, so probably just coming out the vent), various antennae damaged or broken off, left-side door hinge ripped off... Oh, and the interior is soaking wet with 1/2 inch of water pooling at the "top" of the windscreen. And also the tie-downs were still connected to the plane.

As we drove off, the rain began to fall harder, thicker, and with hail.

AWOS appears to have stopped reporting a few hours ago. I guess it took some damage, too. They say four planes are upside-down (we saw two others near us, all high-wings), and several came loose and collided with neighboring planes.

A sad day at JGG.

  1. Yikes, at least no one was hurt.

I see now (11pm EDT) FAF reporting 9knts, but PHF reporting 21knts w/gusts to 32 knts -- if you're missing any parts, they might be down there!

  2. Sorry to hear about 388. These airplanes are tough, though. As long as the wings are still attached it can probably be fixed.

Best of luck with the repairs.

    All the best,

  3. So sorry to see that.

Sad to say, I know just what you are going through. Once you are accustomed to having an airplane, being without one is tough (especially when you are still writing checks).

Good luck, keep us posted, and let me know if you need any advice on dealing with insurance companies. I have too much experience in that area.

  4. THanks to my RSS reader I saw your next post first and was real worried that one of you had been in an accident. So I am relieved to read that isn't true but still sad to see what happened.

  5. "No words", yeah that about sums it up. K&J so sorry to hear about "388".

At least no one was hurt and that's the silver lining. JGG is a great place and I'm glad everyone is ok. Good luck with repairs and keep us all posted.

  7. I'm glad to hear that nobody was injured. How sad to see your plane upside down. At least it doesn't look like a total loss. Hopefully your insurance carrier will do the right thing.
